"Be aware that teens are also asking many questions about the end times and parents may feel like there are no answers to give."
Is the end of the world near? What do all these natural catastrophes mean? It seems like everyone is asking such questions these days, especially after our country has experienced the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Here are just some of the questions teens may be tossing around in their minds, followed by ways you as parents can tackle this sensitive subject.

1. "When will the end of the world come?" Obviously, no one knows this answer except God (Matthew 24:36). We can rest in the fact that though many false prophets will be out there, according to Scripture, we will all know when Jesus himself returns. (Matthew 24:26-27)
2. "I'm not ready for Jesus to come yet! I haven't gone to college, or gotten married or had kids! Why would God take these experiences away from me?" Many of us identify with this question. While our minds cannot grasp heaven, reassure your teens that heaven is going to be so much greater and more wonderful than anything here on earth. (Revelation 7:16, 21:4)
3. "Was Hurricane Katrina another sign that Jesus is coming soon?" While natural disasters are said in Scripture to be a sign of the Second Coming (Luke 21:25), natural disasters have been around for centuries and will continue to occur. Talk to your teen about how God shows His massive power through storms and how God shows His massive love through His people.

During such uncertain and unexplainable times, do not be afraid to let your teen know that you don't know all the answers, but that God is in control. And as always, remember to keep listening to them just as God does to us!
Introducing: The Parent Link

By popular demand, we are introducing a monthly newsletter that will help keep you informed about upcoming events, cultural issues, and parent helps. The parent link will be the communication arm of the Parent Connection of THE ROCK student ministry.

The cultural information provided should answer many of your questions about the environment your student lives in. However, if you have a question that has not been addressed, please feel free to contact a member of the student ministry team. We have a wealth of resources available that will help us to get information to you quickly.

As a ministry, we are here to help in any way we can. At the end of this newsletter you will find a calander for the upcoming month and any needs we might have. Thank you for your support and the privilege of working with your student.

In His Service,
Terry
Teens were asked their opinion regarding the end times. Here are their responses.

Do you think that the end of the world, as predicted in the Book of Revelation, will happen in your lifetime?

29.5 % - Yes.
30% - No.
18.9% - Not sure.
21.6% - Don't think the Bible predicts it. (time.com)

Does God have a role in natural disasters like hurricanes?

6% - Yes, God is punishing us.
12% - Yes, God is testing us.
29% - Yes, disasters are sent by God, but we don't know what the purpose is.
46% - Although I believe in God, the supernatural has nothing to do with any specific natural disaster.
7% - God doesn't exist, and disasters like this are just forces of nature. (beliefnet.com)

Sometimes you have to ask the questions in order to get your tight-lipped teens talking. Try some of these:

1. If you could have one supernatural power, what would it be and why?

2. What have you personally done to change the way you live or the choices you make in light of the recent Hurricane Katrina?

3. How do you feel about the possibility of the end of the world happening in your lifetime? Do you think it will?

4. What do you think Heaven will be like?
Pray that:

1. God would protect your teen from misguided truths that are rampant in the media and everywhere else.

2. You and your teen would grow stronger in dependance on God and that it would become natural to trust Him each step.

3. God would strengthen those who come in contact or have a relationship with your teens such as teachers, student ministers and volunteer workers, etc.

4. You would be filled with wisdom in regards to responses to the hard questions your teens ask.

5. Your family will not become distracted by the uncertainty of life and that you would focus on what God has currently called you to do.

My Chemical Romance, the name inspired by author Irvine Walsh, started in the New Jersey suburbs, where the group began friendships in high school. The friends stayed in contact after graduation and reunited to form this five member alternative pop/rock and punk/pop band whose music is "loud, fast, hyper and aggressive, melodic and pop minded." The group cut "I Brought You Bullets You Brought Me Love" which became one of the best debuts of 2002 and led to a record deal with Reprise. The music of My Chemical Romance has a reputation for being "brilliant, biting and boundary-leaping rock and roll." (mychemicalromance.com)

What parents should know: Their most recent album contains a Parental Advisory and is full of dark thoughts on death, suicide and murder as well as numerous uses of foul language.

Parent/Teen Q&A: Mickey on "thoughts on Christianity":"I am kind of on the fence...I think that each person is entitled to their own opinion for such. I have my own form of faith and spirituality, but it isn't Christian based. (wisemenpromotions.com)

Q: Do you think the Christian faith is based on opinion? Why or why not?
